Sophomores

Take the Pre-ACT test at Cedar Catholic in the fall (normally in September, October or November). This is a valuable test to help you prepare for the ACT which you should begin taking during your junior year.

Review Pre-ACT test results with your parents and school counselor.

Keep copies of your report cards and your transcripts.

Keep a file or list of awards and honors you have received.

Keep a list of school and community activities in which you are involved, including both paid and volunteer work, and descriptions of what you did.

Think about selecting a college and finding out about the different types. Decide which characteristics are most important to you, such as the size of the school, distance from home, cost, and extracurricular activities.

Review the high school courses you need to take to meet the requirements of the colleges you are interested in attending.

Attend the WSC/UNL Career Day in October (as a class).

Explore different careers using the career inventory results from the Pre-ACT.

Take high school classes that challenge you and that will best prepare you for college.

Establish your high school schedule to make you eligible for college:

4 years of English
-
3-4 years of Math (from Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus)

2 years of Foreign Language (for UNL)

3-4 years of Natural Science

3 years of History/Social Studies

Continue extracurricular activities, as scholarship committees look at students’ extracurricular activities when considering them for scholarships.

Talk to your school counselor with any questions you might have about college or career opportunities.
